We believe that every person should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live
We build and repair houses using volunteer labor and donations
Our Partner families purchase these houses through no-profit mortgage loans.
Habitat for Humanity of Goochland (HHG) is affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International (HHI), founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller.
On a global basis, Habitat has helped build or repair more than 800,000 homes and has served more than 4 million people.
Habitat for Humanity of Goochland was founded in 1997 and focuses its efforts on helping those within Goochland County. Based on annual donations, we have been able to build one or two homes per year.
How Does HHG Work?
Through volunteer labor and tax deductible donations of money and materials, HHG builds simple, decent homes with the help of the homeowner (Partner) families.
HHG homes are sold to partner families through no interest mortgage loans. The homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments are then used to fund construction of more houses.
Habitat is not a giveaway program. It represents a hand up, not a hand out. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payment, Partner families must invest a minimum of 300 hours of “sweat equity” into building their homes.
